The artist behind the encounter.

A painting becomes more personal when you know something about the person making it. Renso’s films and published interviews offer a way to see beyond the finished image.
Begin in the studio.
In the video Inside the Artists Studio Renso Tamse, published on his own YouTube channel, visitors can step into the setting behind his work. Other films follow a Boreal Owl watercolour and a live QuickDraw demonstration recorded in 2021.
These archive films show different aspects of his practice. They are an introduction to the artist’s process, rather than documentation of every print in the shop.

Nature, study and interpretation.
In Jacqueline Potter’s 2017 interview Nature as Teacher, Renso describes inspiration as beginning with an idea or a feeling, often in nature. He discusses studying animal proportions through observation and sketching, and learning through practice.
The interview also explores how an animal’s expression and direction of gaze can change a painting’s emotional effect. It offers useful context for looking at a portrait: notice where the animal is looking, then consider how that changes your response.

A practice recognised beyond the studio.
American Art Collector featured Renso in its April 2024 issue, discussing his background and watercolour technique. The original painting White and Wild received an Outstanding Watercolor Award in the July 2024 BoldBrush competition.
These are two distinct records: an editorial profile and a competition award for a particular original painting. They help visitors discover the wider context of the work.

In September 2026, Bear with Bee also received the Western Visions Excellence for Artistic Merit Award. Read the museum’s announcement of 30 September 2026.
Bring the encounter home.
After watching, return to the print collection. Choose a subject that holds your attention and an edition that suits the way you want to collect. The story can deepen your connection, but the image you want to live with is still the starting point.
