Commission a Custom Wildlife Painting by Renso Tamse

Commission a Custom Wildlife Painting by Renso Tamse

Transform your wildlife memory, reference photo, or vision into a bespoke fine art painting created by Renso Tamse. Every commission is a fully collaborative process, resulting in a one-of-a-kind painting crafted with the same techniques and care as the works in Renso's main collection.

Starting prices

Pricing depends on size and complexity. Use these starting points as a guide:

  • Watercolour, small (up to 40×50cm) — from $4,500
  • Watercolour, medium (up to 60×80cm) — from $8,500
  • Watercolour, large (up to 80×120cm) — from $14,500
  • Larger or multi-panel works — quoted individually

Final pricing depends on subject complexity, framing requirements, and timeline. A 50% deposit secures the commission; the balance is due on completion.

Lead time

A typical commission takes 3 to 6 months from approved sketch to delivered painting, depending on size and current studio commitments. Larger works can run longer. Rush availability is occasionally possible — just ask.

The process

1. Share your vision

Tell Renso about your idea, reference images, the animal or moment that inspires you, and intended size. Renso will respond with initial thoughts, refinements, and a price quote.

2. Concept sketch & composition

After the initial consultation and a 50% deposit, Renso creates a detailed concept sketch outlining composition, lighting, and atmosphere. You approve the sketch before any paint is applied. Up to two rounds of revisions are included.

3. Creation of the artwork

Using layered watercolour techniques on watercolour board, Renso builds depth, texture, and realism. You'll receive progress photos at key milestones. Your input shapes the work as it develops.

4. Final review & worldwide delivery

Once complete, you receive high-resolution photos for final approval. The artwork is then professionally packed, fully insured, and shipped worldwide.

Every commission includes

  • Hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity
  • Archival materials guaranteed for long-term preservation
  • High-resolution photography of the finished work
  • Optional framing guidance (or full framing service on request)
  • Full provenance documentation

Frequently asked questions

Can I commission a painting of my own pet?
Wildlife is Renso's specialty — commissions are typically of wild animals, not domestic pets. Exceptions are made occasionally for hunting dogs, working horses, or special cases; ask and we'll see.

Do I keep the rights to my commissioned painting?
You own the physical painting. Renso retains the copyright (standard for fine art), which means he may share photos of the work on his website and social media unless agreed otherwise. Reproduction rights can be negotiated separately if needed.

Can the painting be released as an edition later?
By default, commissioned originals are not released as prints — they remain unique to you. If you'd like the painting to also be available as a Limited or Open Edition, this can be arranged in advance.

What if I'm not happy with the final piece?
Because every commission is approved at the sketch stage and reviewed at milestones, surprises are rare. If the finished work doesn't meet expectations and we can't resolve through revision, the deposit covers Renso's time on the sketch and concept work.
